I hatched the idea of traveling along old US Route 66 a few years ago, while
traveling in Arizona, particularly Flagstaff. I think that was the first time I
realized there were sections of Route 66 that were well preserved. My interest
had been growing since, and I finally convinced my wife the time was
right to make the trip.
Susan, Kaitie, Mimi, my niece Tomi and I flew from Seattle to Detroit on Saturday, July 15, and bought a new minivan
in Detroit on Monday, July 17. We left Detroit on Tuesday, July 18.
You can follow our progress in the pages listed at left. Each link represents one day.
All of these pictures were taken with a Nikon CoolPix 990, which
I think I can now highly recommend, especially with the wide-angle
lens accessory. I resampled the hideously large (3.3 mega
pixel) images to a more manageable 640x480.
