Day 2: Holland, MI to Chicago, IL

An actual Dutch woman (6th generation)

When we woke up in Holland, MI, we decided to go to the Dutch Village Amusement park. It is a 41-year-old theme park. It was very well-kept, and almost everyone was enthusiastic and friendly, if not Dutch. This woman was Dutch, so I thought I should take her picture.

The girls riding the swing at Dutch Village

It was so uncrowded that the girls were able to ride this swing 5 or 6 times in a row. I rode it too, and it was absolutely terrifying. I was so scared I got cramps from gripping the supporting wires.

Look what the stork brought!

Tomi was not thrilled to do this, and Susan remarked that if she could get Tomi to pose like this with a large stork, she could get Tomi to do anything.

Funny Groucho Marx nose and moustache near Michigan-Indiana border

Shortly after we crossed the Michigan border on US 12, we came across this intriguing business. I am still not sure what they were selling.

The Spindle

Not far from the headwaters of Historic Route 66 is this interesting sculpture, called The Spindle. It is in a mall parking lot at Cermak and Harlem.
